January is usually the time of year when people start reflecting on the year that has passed and start thinking about the year ahead. This usually leads to people realizing that they “should” set resolutions.  Well, here we are, two weeks into a new year and as I sit here with my decaf and write for the first time in a while I wonder, who has already given up on or left behind their resolutions..?

Every January I write the same kind of blog post stating that I don’t make resolutions, I believe in short-term goals… blah blah blah, and this year was no different. I’ve set a few attainable goals for the next 60 days and I’m going after them.

The first goal I set was no drinking alcohol for 60 days and so far, so good. We’re at day 14 and I honestly don’t miss it at all. It’s sometimes annoying to be around a bunch of the boys while they’re drunk, but for the most part, it’s all good.  The best part of this one is no hangover and no empty calories, I can eat them all instead.

My second goal has been a bit harder; no non-paleo meals for 60 days.  We’re at day 14 and I’m proud to say, I’m still doing well, even after being sick for the last 9 days.  The only non-paleo food I’ve had in the last two weeks was some Lays plain, 50% less salt, chips. I know they’re not paleo and not great for me, but there was football to be watched and I needed a snack, and they’re still gluten and dairy free, which is the most important thing to me because of my allergies.  While sticking to Paleo I’ve come up with a few new recipes and I hope to have them on the blog soon!

Two workouts a day and my rowing goals were doing great the first week and a bit, however last week I got really sick for 6 days and didn’t leave the house so exercise was put to the back burner. I tried to workout the first day I was sick and almost died, so I decided against it until Thursday. I’m still sick, but much better, I’m just waiting for my lungs to come back around. I got back to rowing yesterday and after being challenged by my friend and fellow health nut, Alfonso “the Angry Trainer” Moretti, we’re upping the anit and the rowing to 2,500m three times a week, instead of just two (bastard!).

I fell 530 burpees behind in the 30 day burpee challenge, but I’m officially caught up as of last night and we’re still going strong. It’s not too late to join us if you’re interested.  We’ve got a great support system going on on Facebook and we’d love more of you to join.

So this covers about half of my 60 day goals. I have not yet gone for a 5k run, I have not yet sought out gymnastics instruction and I’ve gone nowhere near the pool. I’m not going to blame this on being sick (although, I think I could) and I’m just going to man up and say that they’re not done yet. My goal this week is to do one run and get to the pool.  I need to look a bit more into the gymnastic goal as I’m not sure there’s anyone in my town qualified enough to teach adults (should have researched this before making the goal).

We’re now 14 days into 2014 and I haven’t started a few of my goals and I’m not denying or making excuses as to why. The only thing I’m going to do is step up and do them. Are you sticking to your goals for 2014, or have you already started to make excuses?

    Glad to hear your on track! Your killing it with the rowing. I set some short term goals too. Doing a 6:30am lifting program along with our usual evening crossfit program too, second week in. Also, still doing my Smolov back squat program - working towards a 3 plate back squat.

    You had a great routine for daily workout, and you have scarifies so many things to stay fit and fine, that's a great job you doing to stay healthy. This points will help me to stay healthy and fit. Thanks for sharing.
